Museveni is praised for prioritising UPDF training

Nakasongola | Major General David Mugisha, Commander of Special Forces Command, praised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for prioritising training to transform the UPDF into a professional and modern force.

Gen Mugisha stated that the President committed to training and transforming the UPDF from a ragtag force to a modern, lethal, productive, high-tech, and pro-people force.

Museveni’s desire, he said, drove him to establish UPDF training schools.

Maj Gen Mugisha, representing the Chief of Defence Forces, delivered the remarks on May 27 at the School of Defence Intelligence and Security in Migyera, Nakasongola.

The event was held for officers and men who finished the Special Investigations Bureau Course.

Mugisha urged the officers to remember the core values of loyalty, conscious discipline, integrity, duty, honour, honesty, and courage, which have guided and shaped their careers.

Brig Abdu Rugumayo, the Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, praised the students for maintaining the highest technical standards, discipline, and overall commitment throughout the course.

He urged them to be wary of service challenges in the field and warned them against corruption, favouritism, and discrimination while carrying out their duties.

Col James Muhumuza, Commandant of the School of Defence Intelligence and Security, stated that the officers and men are arriving at a critical time when criminality is becoming more sophisticated as a result of scientific and technological advancements.

“We have given you the fundamental skills, but you must continue to improve yourself,” said Col Muhumuza.
