President (elect) Yoweri Kaguta T. Museveni will be sworn-in in the next hours for the 6th term after winning January 14, 2021 presidential election.
Lira – 12, May 2021: Ahead of his swearing in at Kololo Independence ground in Kampala, security personnel have been deployed heavily across the country to avert any planned protest.
In Lira City, security leadership have done the same. The announcement has been made by North Kyoga Regional Police PRO, ASP Patrick Okema.
“It’s the work of police to provide security to members of the public. Today marks the beginning of the new term of office in government with swearing in ceremony of the president of the Republic of Uganda H.E Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni 6th terms in office,” he told the media.
He adds: “This function is taking place in Kololo ceremonial ground, we have therefore deployed motorized and foot patrol team in and around Lira City; this is not to scare people but rather to provide an assurance to members of the public about security.”
The PRO tells people to go freely with their business. However, he says, “we encourage them to be on their TV-sets to watch the live broadcast of the swearing in ceremony”.
“Also let’s report timely suspicious elements who wants to destabilize security to responsible authorities.
We are very much committed in providing security as mandated in the constitution of the Republic of Uganda under article 212.”
