Lira | The seat of the woman MP for Lira City is presently being discussed throughout the Lango sub-region after Betty Amongi, the MP for Oyam South, expressed her desire to hold it.
Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, the current female MP, stated earlier this year that she was not scared about Amongi’s interest in her position. Only those in Dr. Aceng’s inner circle are aware of her political strategies and tactics and what she will employ to retain her seat.
Regardless of politics, she is very well-liked in the country and among the Lango people.
“She is intelligent and works quietly, but her actions have a huge impact. In terms of development, during her three years as our parliamentary representative, she has helped her constituents and cultivated a closer relationship with them,” a Lira City voter told tndNews last month.
While nothing scares her ahead of 2026, the 56-year-old paediatrician continues to be targeted by those who dislike her bureaucratic ways of working, and tndNews has learned that a young lady is allegedly being fronted and will be bankrolled for NRM primary elections against her.

Betty Amongi (Oyam South MP and Gender Minister), Etwop Geoffrey (tycoon and NRM treasurer for Lira district), Okello Daniel, and a group of NRM leaders are supporting Akao Rachel.
The search and mission for this have been ongoing for quite some time, beginning with Awor Angweri. Her financial backers, on the other hand, discovered that she would not give up after the primaries. She was soon abandoned.
Akao was later approached, and according to unverified information, she will be handed shs500m to begin traversing the city soon.
“Things are set up so that Akao will be hired and fully supported by Betty Amongi to run against Dr. Jane in the NRM primaries.
“Whether she passes or not, the primary goal of disorganizing Aceng will have been accomplished. “She has been assured that even if she contests and fails, she will be employed at the Gender Ministry or connected for Presidential appointment,” according to a viral statement.
She has already accepted the offer with determination. “Their possibility is that, as the daughter of the then-devoted Catholic (Ogwang Ochoo), she may receive a significant number of votes from Catholic believers and religious leaders.”
“They are also planning to ‘officially’ hand her over to Etwop and then take her to Iwal, where she will declare her interest and begin a road repair with Etwop’s grader.”
“In one of the meetings in Kampala, Amongi declared shs10 billion to be injected in Lira City for the campaigns,” the same viral information states.
To date, Amongi, who was elected in 2021 to serve the people of Oyam South, has spent more than shs1 billion in less than 8 months after expressing interest in the Lira City woman MP seat.
