Two children perish in a fire outbreak

Soroti | According to police, a fire incident in Owoolo cell, Otatai ward, Soroti City on Thursday tragically claimed the lives of two juveniles.

The kids, Joshua Ewagu, 10, and Gabriella Ibiara, 5, died from suffocation brought on by the fire that consumed their home.

After leaving for the garden, their mother came back to find the house full of smoke and the terrible result.

Neighbours rushed to help after hearing her alarm, attempting to save the children.

Despite their best efforts, the two were unable to be saved.

They were pronounced dead on arrival at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.

According to ASP Edison Obukulem, the Police PRO for the East Kyoga Region, the incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on April 25.

Julius Emwenyu, the LC1 of the Owoolo cell, informed the police.

William Edumu, the father of the deceased, informed the Police that the fire may have been caused by the children who possibly attempted to light the gas stove.

He claimed that a piece of matchbox found near the doorway supported his theory.

Emwenyu revealed that the mother has been locking the children inside while she goes gardening.

According to PRO Obukulem, investigations are still ongoing.
