Otuke | Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of an 8-year-old child and the critical condition of another.
They are being held at Otuke Central Police Station while being investigated for suspected murder by poisoning in Awee village, Agweng parish, Alango sub-county, Otuke district.
Onyanga Richard, 54, an Awee village LCI, reported the crime to police.
It is claimed that on April 28, 2024, Otiti Aldo, the deceased’s father, went out and bought waragi worth shs9000, returned home with it, and drank with his two children, Ojede Emmanuel and Akullo Cinderella, 4.
“After consumption, both children vomited heavily before Ojede Emmanuel died, while Akullo Cinderella was rushed to Aliwang Mission Hospital for treatment,” North Kyoga Regional PRO, SP Okema Jimmy, stated.
He added that police later visited the crime scene and took witness statements.
“The exhibit of some remaining waragi was recovered and will be taken to the government laboratory in Wandegeya, Kampala, for analysis.
“The deceased body was picked up and transported to Orum Health Centre IV for postmortem.
“Two suspects were arrested to help with the investigation,” the PRO added.
This is a shocking incident if a father can buy waragi and share it with his children; his motives have yet to be determined because he is in custody and an investigation is underway, Okema added.
“We call for calmness from the relatives, the matter in question is already in Police’s hands. We promise that the law will take its course against him and anyone else involved in the incident.”
