Lira | On April 3 and 4, 2024, Mota-Engil, a company rehabilitating Lira-Kamdini road registered two complaints in Loro and Atapara Police Stations, respectively.
Later, the territorial Police of Oyam under the command of the District Police Commander (DPC) conducted an intelligence-led operation in Loro and Aber sub-counties.
The North Kyoga Region Police PRO, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema said the operations were carried out on April 9. Over 500 litres of siphoned diesel was recovered.
Three suspects were arrested and two motorcycles were also impounded. According to Okema, three aluminium-rounded plastic tanks were recovered.
“Some known suspects have been identified but are at large, however, efforts to have them apprehended are ongoing.”
Files have been compiled, exhibits documented and attached to case files ready for submission to the Resident City State Attorney for perusal and legal advice on charges of theft, he added.
“We very sincerely condemn these actions as one way of delaying the government program of construction of the road, we shall leave no stone unturned,” SP Okema told tndNews.
