The tragic accident occurred along the railway zone in Walukuba at around 6:30 pm on Wednesday, September 17 in Jinja City.
The train, with four wagons loaded with coils, collided with a pedestrian identified as Habiba Nabirye, who was walking on the railway line.
The train engineer, Stephen Kusaba, 48, excessively hooted, but Nabirye could not adhere to the hooting signals.
The train was coming from Jinja Pier heading to Jinja City railway station. Habiba Nabirye’s body is in the mortuary at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital as of Thursday morning.
Immediately, Jinja traffic police responded to the incident to secure the scene and obtain witness statements.
According to PRO Kiira police region SP James Mubi, the cause and circumstances surrounding the tragic incident are yet to be fully determined or established. 
As a way of enhancing railway transport safety protocols, Mubi has cautioned the public to always maintain focus and awareness while moving near railway lines.
