Kampala | Matthew Kanyamumyu has Friday been released from Luzira prison after serving his sentence.
He was convicted for shooting dead a child activist, Kenneth Akena in 2016.
Kanyamumyu would later be sentenced to five years and one month in prison four years later for murder.
However, his murder charge was reduced to manslaughter by the Director of Public Prosecution after a plea bargaining session held at the High Court Criminal Division in Kampala.
In 2020, he pleaded to the criminal offence and asked for forgiveness from Akena’s family and the people of Acholi.
His years in prison would be reduced. On Friday, April 12, he has rejoined public life.
Until his freedom, he had served three years and five months.
