Agago | The UPDF shot and killed a cattle rustler on Friday in Barafayo village, Lakwa parish, Adilang sub-county, Agago district.
The unidentified rustler had crossed the lane of the 81 Battalion troops from the 507 Brigade of the 5 Infantry Division.
The troops pursued the rustler and found three cows and a submachine gun with 17 rounds of ammunition.
The cows were stolen from Lacekonya village in Kulaka parish’s Adilang sub-county, according to Captain Favourite Rugumayo, PIO of D Division.
Rugumayo added that the cows were returned to their rightful owners, Opio Lamson and Oyugi Alfred.
The army urged residents in the area to exercise extra caution and take their animals to protected kraals.
By doing so, cattle owners will be less vulnerable to raids.
For years, the UPDF has maintained a presence in the Karamoja sub-region, conducting a number of operations to keep it peaceful.
