Alebtong | Police detectives in Alebtong district are investigating a murder by a mob of Odeli Denis, 30.

The deceased, until his death, was a resident of Obupyen village, Owalu parish, Awei sub-county in Alebtong district.

His death was reported on February 22 by Omara Joel, 66, and registered in Alebtong Police station under Awei Post Ref 05/22/02/2024.

It’s alleged that on February 22, 2024, at Obupyen village, the deceased was found red-handed with three stolen goats.

One of the goats was alive and two had already been slaughtered, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO, North Kyoga Region, said.

SP Okema said an alarm was made which attracted many people who “became violent and beat up Odeli badly”.

He died while being rushed to the Hospital at around 10:40 am, the PRO added.

“His relatives later returned the deceased’s body home for burial.

“Police responded to the scene to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident, statements were recorded from relevant witnesses where some relatives revealed that the deceased was a notorious thief and was recently released from prison upon completion of his sentence.

“They refused for a postmortem to be conducted. No suspects have been apprehended but efforts are being made to have them arrested,” according to Okema.

On behalf of North Kyoga, the PRO said they condemn the actions of the community members of taking the law into their own hands.

Okema appealed to members of the public to work closely with the Police to have such suspects arrested and face the law.
