Murder in the city as tally surpasses 25 across Lango

Lira | Police in Lira City West Division says “seriously” investigating a suspected murder by cutting a yet-to-be-identified person.

The body was discovered dumped in Obutuwelo A cell, Ojwina C ward, Lira City West Division.

The murder is believed to have occurred between the night of February 18 and 19, 2024. A report was made to the Juba Road Police Post by Apeto Bonny, 34.

Immediately, according to the North Kyoga PRO, SP Jimmy Okema, a team of Police officers led by the Deputy OC CID Lira City West Division responded to the scene.

They found the deceased cut around the neck using a sharp object, and the body was dumped along Okot-ogong Road in Abutuwelo.

The body was picked and conveyed to Lira Regional Hospital’s mortuary pending a postmortem report, SP Okema added.

A panga with blood stains suspected to have been used for cutting the deceased was recovered near the body and exhibited as evidence, Okema said.

“The deceased was dressed in a black trouser, black canvas shoes and a white jumper. He’s believed to be a hawker at Lira City bus park.

“We appeal to anyone who knows the deceased to support the Police in identifying him such that we can get the relatives and also anyone who has any information which can support Police investigation to quietly share with us such that we can get the perpetrators and face the court of law,” Okema urged the public.

Close to 30 people have been murdered across Lango sub-region from December 31, 2023, to February 19, 2024, according to the tndNews tally.

By January 18, 2024, eighteen (18) people were already murdered, North Kyoga Police said last month.
