Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Mountain Division commander Maj Gen Dick Olum has reassured the people of Rwenzori of UPDF’s commitment to ensuring peace, stability and safety in the region.

Gen Dick promised while officiating as a chief guest at the celebrations to mark the 43rd Tarehe Sita Anniversary on February 6, 2024, at Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal City.

“The UPDF and Mountain Division in particular is working tirelessly to ensure that the peace, safety and freedoms of the Wannainchi are safeguarded,” he said.

He announced that peace is “assured now and in future when the current leadership is long gone”. He attributed this to the strong foundation the current leadership has laid for the future.

“We keep a bit worried, what will happen after we are long gone, but still think we are in a position to lay a foundation that will not be shaken. We thank the government for standing strong to safeguard the people of Uganda,” he added.
