Lira I Death has robbed Lango sub-region of two politicians who all died on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The deaths of the duo have come as a big blow to the sub-region, according to flowing eulogies across Lango and afar.
Betty Akoli Nam, the former Kole district LC5 chairperson’s death emerged as a big surprise to many who never knew she had been unwell.
She died at her marital home in Lira City West Division before the body was taken to Lira Regional Hospital mortuary around 11 a.m.
Betty got married to Dr Richard Nam, the former Premier of Lango Cultural Foundation. Her husband currently serves as the Awitong (clan chief) of Okii-amat.
Shortly after her death became public, another announcement came; it was about the passing on of Lira City West Division Mayor, Mike Ogwal Achonga.
Achonga was elected in the 2021 general elections and became the first Division mayor of Lira City West. The administrative unit became operational after the elevation of Lira Municipality to a City in the previous financial year.
Until his death, he was getting treatment for cancer at Mulago Cancer Institute in Kampala where he was admitted for over five months.
