Kampala | UPC preparations ahead of 2026 general elections will continue, the party has said.
Early this month, the Congress party started its nationwide mobilisation and recruitment tours, starting with Apac and Kwania districts in Lango sub-region.
Jimmy Akena, the party president and Lira City East Division MP led his team. Both got positive receptions in Lango, with the party members wanting to see their colours on the Presidential ballot papers in 2026.
Akena – by his body language – has indicated he’s vying alongside incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, 79, among others.
President Museveni has received overwhelming support from his NRM group, with hundreds – if not thousands – endorsing him as the sole candidate.

For now, UPC feels that having strong national structures, and mobilisation can give them the results they desire before, and in 2026.
Recently, according to UPC head of media and communication, Faizo Muzeyi, the party president made “an impromptu visit” to Nebbi Municipality and met with party leaders.
The leaders were led by the regional vice chairpersons of Greater West Nile, comrades Collins Obadeling and Stanley Yiacia.
Also in attendance were the local government leaders on UPC tickets and some members.
“We want to appreciate the Nebbi and greater Arua leaderships for exhibiting such a good level of organisation and mobilisation for the party that won UPC some seats in the local government amidst the challenges at hand,” Faizo adds, Wednesday.
“The president is very much aware of the challenges our structures are facing and is committed to addressing them and taking UPC to her desired position.

“As the party is working on the national program in preparation for the 2026 general elections, all party structures and general membership across the country are called upon to step up mobilisation for UPC using our self-explanatory legacy on education, health and welfare which are the most pressing concerns of the citizenry.
“The president will continue making such mobilisation visits to different parts of the country,” Faizo reveals.
