Lira, May 25, 2023: The mourning constituents of Oyam North will have their newly elected MP by July 7 after casting their votes a day before.
The Oyam North MP seat is vacant after the murder of former MP, Okello Engola Macodwogo on May 2.
As per the electoral law, the electoral commission is mandated to organise an election within 90 days – and as a result, July 6 has been allocated for voting.
In the race to succeed Engola are his son Okello Samuel Engola Jnr., who is competing with Ambassador Julius Peter Moto, Willy Omodo Omodo, and Queen Dorothy Amolo, among others in the NRM primary election.
As of Wednesday, three NRM aspirants had picked the nomination forms from the National Resistance Movement party headquarters in Kampala.
The chairperson of the electrical commission for NRM Dr Tanga Odoi received aspirant Engola Jnr. who picked party forms on Wednesday.
On the same day, Willy Omodo Omodo, and Julius Peter Moto also picked forms.
Engola confirmed that he has picked the forms and urged the NRM supporters to endorse him. He tells them he wants to go and complete all the work his late father Col. Charles Okello Engola left.
Amb Julius Peter Moto also confirmed picking the nomination forms. Moto appealed to the NRM supporters to pay keen attention to the pparty’sprimary election.
Omodo who is among the aspirants says the NRM supporters must have hope for him. He added that the higher authorities in the NRM party have confirmed their stand on letting the party supporters elect a candidate according to their choice.

Whoever wins among them will meet with Dr Eunice Apio Otuku has got huge backing from Uganda People’s Congress (UPC). NUP, in a circular, has made a call to party members interested in the race to do so.
