Lira, May 22, 2023: Two female Members of Parliament from the Lango sub-region who subscribe to the NRM party have shown interest to replace the former Central Executive Committee (CEC) member, Jacob Oulanyah.
Oulanyah who was also the Speaker of Parliament (MP Omoro County) died on March 20, 2022, in Seattle, United States of America.
After his death, some politicians across northern Uganda have shown interest to occupy his CEC seat.
Among them are female Legislators, Judith Alyek (Kole Woman) and Lira City Woman, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng. Alyek is also the Chairperson of Lango Parliamentary Group while Dr Aceng is the Minister of Health.
Aceng made her interest known on May 21, saying, “I would like to officially announce my candidature for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson Northern Uganda.

“This is a position which makes one a member of CEC of the National Resistance Movement – the party’s top decision-making organ and it requires a person of high integrity and good track record in order for us to realise what we need and desire.
“I will be unpacking the plans I have in the shortest time possible.”
Details on this, and public reactions to follow.
