Kampala, Sept. 9, 2022: Whoever thought the political fire which was started jokingly as a birthday fete for the Commander of the UPDF Lands Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has gone out is mistaken because there are people still pushing for him to join active politics.

Kainerugaba, who is also the first son, months ago triggered controversy in the security and political circles when he attended several birthday parties reportedly organized by his admirers.

Now, a group of somewhat youthful NRM leaders and cadres under their body called “Transformer Cadres Association of Uganda (TCAU)” wants President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to expedite the retirement of Muhoozi from the military as a deliberate move to pave his political journey to the presidency.

Addressing a news conference at Mosa Courts in Kampala, the TCAU president Felix Adupa Ongwech said it’s only Muhoozi who is best suitable to replace his father Museveni.

The latter has been in power since 1986.

The group suggests that an early exit from the military will give adequate time to Muhoozi to acquaint himself with civilian life and also be able to build and strengthen his campaign team ready to win votes.

“… TCAU will henceforth start mobilizing for Muhoozi as the top most contender for president…” he said, adding his organization will also champion national dialogue to clinch consensus.

Flanked by members of the organization executives namely Farida Nakawala (VP), Kiberu Malik (legal advisor), retired UPDF officer Maj Geoffrey Mugweri (treasurer), and Charles Kazooba as the office administrator, the journalist-turned-politician promised to work closely with key stakeholders to achieve their dream.

The man from Kyoga also told journalists that his group has already submitted their views to the newly appointed Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao on the need for a constitutional review.

He told reporters that the opposition DP whose party leader recently inked a Cooperation Agreement with the ruling NRM party has proposed that the head of state should be a ceremonial president who is elected by MPs from among candidates nominated by different political parties.

Among the issues highlighted to be included in the Constitutional Review Commission is the reinstatement of the presidential term limits to two, increasing the term of governance from five to seven years, creation of another layer of parliament called the Senate and to implement the regional tier as provided for in the 1995 Constitution of the country.

It should be noted that the Adupa-led Transformer Cadres Association Uganda has been campaigning and promoting the above-stated constitutional amendments amongst Ugandans and that the Electoral Commission also approved the request to collect signatures for the referendum.

The visibly determined group says they want a peaceful transition of power from Museveni to Muhoozi whom they described as a generational leader for posterity.
