Kampala – August 25, 2022: Former Ugandan security minister Gen. Elly Tumwine has died. According to various media sources, the former army MP died on Thursday morning.
For weeks, he was admitted to Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. While there, Elly underwent an operation, according to reports.
It is now widely known that the former bush war army officer died of cancer-related complications.
The army spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Felix Kulaigye confirmed his death, adding that Tumwine was rushed to Nairobi in a critical condition.
President Museveni in 2005 promoted Tumwine to the rank of a General ahead of the 2006 general elections. That same year, he was appointed the Chairperson of the Army Court Martial.
Tunwine died aged 68 and also worked as the Director General of External Security Organization [ESO] from 1994 until 1996.
