Gulu – April 2, 2022: A suspected thief in Gulu city was shot in the right leg by a private security guard from SGA Company.
The incident took place on March 31, 2022.
Patrick Kitara is the LCI chairman of Queen Avenue, Bardege-Layib division in Gulu city. He said the injured suspect was netted with goods worth shs20, 000-30,000 from the same supermarket.
The local leader said Lukwago Musa was shot in front of Centenary Bank, Gulu city branch. He was left with a fractured leg.
Kitara revealed that nowadays life is too hard, advising the public not to get involved in getting free things. “Failure to work will lead to loss of life recklessly,” he said.
“Get involved in agriculture to fight poverty,” he advised, revealing that poverty is due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic which hit Uganda for 2 years.
A juvenile who was selling face-masks along the road told TND News’ reporter that after the suspect was shot the mob started beating him. The police immediately came to his rescue.

According to the statement recorded by the security guard, he alleges that Lukwago Musa stole two bottles of Cocoa butter and Shea butter from the supermarket and tried to escape.
ASP Mudong is the Aswa River Region Police spokesperson. He confirmed that the police patrol team was notified, rushed to the scene, apprehended the guard, and evacuated the victim to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for medication.
Rifle SAR No. PSO 3300502 with 04 rounds of ammunition was recovered and exhibited.
ASP Mudong appealed to the public to desist from stealing and advised them to treat suspects lawfully, further condemning the shooting and mob justice in the community.
The case was reported at Gulu Central Police Station vide CRB number 306/2022.
