Lira – February 8, 2022: It is now confirmed that the authority of Lira City Council FC has taken over the management and administration of Bata TC FC.
In a bilateral agreement and talks held by the management of two clubs at the end of December at Bata trading center, Dokolo district, the two teams agreed that Lira City Council FC takes over the management of Bata TC FC.
The latter is a 3rd division tier club currently playing in the Northern Uganda FUFA Regional League. Bata TC FC has been acquired for an undisclosed fee.
Dr. Erick Okek is the Lira City Council FC president applauded the agreement. “It will shorten the period required for Lira City Council FC to play at the Uganda Premier League; a top tier elite league in Uganda by three years.”
Meanwhile, LCC FC is a 5th division club. “Technically, we needed about 5 years to reach Uganda premier league if we were to follow the normal channel, but with the acquisition of Bata TC FC, this journey has been shortened by about 2 years,” Okek added.
Martin Owani, CEO of Lira City Council FC noted that the club was more popular than the 5th division league it is currently playing in. “There was a need to match up to the popularity; acquisition of Bata TC FC, a regional league club was such an opportunity to match the demands and expectations of the enthusiastic fans.”
In his brief remarks, Tonny Cazorla, Coach and CEO of Bata TC FC welcomed the new development, adding, “It saved the club from undergoing total extinction due to numerous challenges.”
In the agreement, a minimum of 4 players of Bata TC FC are to be retained by LCC FC even after the amalgamation. Bata TC FC Coach will also be given the assistant managerial role of both Bata TC FC and LCC FC under the new management.
Bata TC FC is currently last in the Northern Uganda Regional League with 3 points. Under the new management, the club is expected to improve and survive the relegation.
“Our objective this season is for Bata TC FC to survive relegation from regional league and we shall do all it takes to achieve this objective,” noted Christine Anyinge Ojok, Deputy CEO of LCC FC.
