Mwenda, days ago, was pictured wearing a full army uniform and seated inside an army aircraft – like he wanted to take off to the skies.
Kampala – January 9, 2022: Had the State or UPDF top commanders apprehended veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda for donning a military uniform, the entire country would be wondering why.
The number of debates perhaps would be equal to what we are seeing now after his best friend – First son and Commander of the Land Forces of the UPDF, Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba stated in his friend’s defense.
Why has Muhoozi reacted? Mwenda, days ago, was pictured wearing a full army uniform and seated inside an army aircraft – like he wanted to take off to the skies.
His photo – viral on social media to date – has raised mixed debates. Some asked for his arrest while others, the majority in his group thinks it is patriotism.
The positive assumption has been proven and he (Mwenda) – won’t be tasked to explain – whatsoever.
Muhoozi wrote, in defense, “My bro Mwenda is part of the massive fan base that UPDF has because of the great work we do. They want to wear uniforms, hold our guns and even pretend to fly our aircrafts. It means nothing. They are just excited beings. A victorious army like ours is used to such adoration.”
On Sunday, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine expressed his sentiment and concerns after Gen. Muhoozi defended Mwenda.
“Hundreds of our supporters are in prison over a year. Come tortured to permanent deformity. Others executed in cold blood. Their crime? Putting on a red beret! Museveni’s son now responds to demands that his friend Mwenda is held to account for wearing a full military combat!”
“With this tweet, he closes the case. No gov’t entity will dare speak about it again. Muhoozi simply saying, “I am the state, the state is me.” The impunity! The date of despots who have behaved in this barbaric manner is well known. Sadly, none ever learns from those before!”
Mwenda is a big admirer of President Museveni and his son – Muhoozi. Although he bashes the regime sometimes, his support for a few individuals in the NRM government is unreserved.
Now, as Muhoozi project for presidency looks to be gaining momentum via pro-social media writings and praises, Mwenda has had this to say, a few days ago:
“Why should Bobi Wine be free to organize elections and Muhoozi Kainerugaba can’t? Why should the people who think he can be President be silenced? If he desires to succeed his father, I think he should try his luck.”
