UCFC, a new rebel gang busted by Police in fresh operation

Oyam—21, December 2021: Uganda’s security team continues to quell both internal and external criminal threats posed by wrongdoers.

In recent months, police and sister security agencies completed some major breakthroughs by halting criminal plans which would cause destruction to property and loss of lives.

The forces’ alertness became heightened after the Komaboga bomb blast on October 23, outside Kampala, in which one person died.

Another blast would later take place in a bus heading towards Western Uganda from Kampala. In that incident, one terrorist blew himself off.

Speaking to media in October, CP Fred Enanga, Spokesperson of the Uganda Police Force said the attacks were an act of domestic terror”. Read more here.

In October this year, Police’s Directorate of Crime Intelligence, assisted by territorial Police in Kayunga district, arrested nine [9] suspects linked to several crimes of aggravated robbery, attempted murder and related conspiracies.

They were operating in Namakandwa village, Kangulumira sub-county in Kayunga district.

“The criminal gang has been enticing unsuspecting customers with fake land deals and other fraudulent transactions,” Police said then.

The latest group  

On Tuesday, 21 December, Charles Twiine, Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) says police “busted a criminal gang operating under a rebel name called ‘Uganda Coalition Forces of Change (UCFC)’”.

“The gang which revealed that they were recruited from areas of Wakiso confessed to have murdered police officers in Busunju and Kiboga on 7th and 17th December respectively,” Twiine adds.

He also says two police guns robbed from police officers (deceased) have been recovered. Eight [8] suspects working with UCFC are also arrested.

Makumbi Moshi is a commander of the UCFC, according to CID Spokesperson, who adds the arrested will be charged with murder and aggravated robbery.
