Three districts in Northern Uganda records 32 new cases of Covid

Since 2019, the pandemic has claimed the lives of 3,274 Ugandans, data from the Ministry shows.


Oyam – 25, December 2021: The Ministry of Health of Uganda on Christmas Day released the highest new cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) to have been recorded in more than half a year.

Out of 8,926 tests done on December 23, 1,251 tested positive. The results push the national test positivity rate (TPR) to 14.0% from 10.1%.

As of December 23, according to the Ministry of Health, the total cumulative cases stand at 133,232. 98,197 have since recovered from the pandemic.

The same data also shows that 2,101,546 tests have been conducted since 2019; 10,121,220 have been vaccinated.

Of the 1,251 new cases, 1,242 are alerts and contacts from Kampala 781, Wakiso 303, Mbarara 22, Jinja 18, Gulu 20, Mbale 8, Soroti 10, Masindi 7, Luweero 7, Busia 7.

Other towns are Tororo 7, Mukono 4, Amuru 10, Kabale 2, Namasindwe 1, Arua 1, Rakai 9; Hoima 1, Kalaki 1, Lyantonde 1, Iganga 1, Kayunga 1; Kyotera 19 and Kanungu 1.

Nine (9) truckers: Kyotera 6, Tororo 2 and Amuru 1 all tested positive for the virus.

In an update on Christmas Day regarding the Covid-19 situation in Dokolo district, Musafiri Suwed, the district Information Officer says out of 17 samples taken on December 24, one tested positive.

Currently, according to him, five people are on Homebased Care (HBC): Three (3) in Dokolo town council, one (1) in Kanagi town council and Kwera with one (1).

In its Christmas message to Ugandans, the Ministry of Health warns against overconsumption of alcohol as it could have long term effects on your health.
