Exclusive: Museveni agrees to revise curfew hours

Ugandans have lived under curfew for more than 700 days amidst several calls to have it removed completely.

Kampala – December 31, 2021: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is scheduled to address the nation on Friday from 8 pm.

Gen. Museveni will address the nation on the Covid-19 situation and deliver his End of Year/New Year 2022 messages to Ugandans.

When Museveni made it public in his previous but recent address that the government would fully reopen the economy in January, Ugandans have been eagerly waiting for the day – the day he would make the official announcement.

Uganda, like any other country, is battling with the severe impacts of Covid-19 on both its population and the economy.

Revenues have dwindled, jobs have been lost and many households are surviving on one meal per day.

Also, some guidelines put in place to help curb the pandemic has severely, like the pandemic itself affected dozens of the population.

Some who travels long distances to town or trading centres to vend their goods to sustain their families have ‘abused’ curfew hour. This has seen many of them being arrested across the country – and some claim they lost their money in the process.

Now, with less than four hours to the President’s address, TND News has exclusively been told curfew hours will be revised.

Currently, the curfew starts from 7 pm to 5:30 am.

“The President will revise curfew times from 7pm to 10pm and it will go until 5:30 am,” a source, highly placed in the government says.

“The revision is because the economy will reopen amidst surge in daily Covid-19 cases, people are expected to comply because it is for our good,” the same source adds.

The source, however, says there will be more strict enforcement of curfew from January compared to how it was managed before.

“President is the Commander in Chief and he will revoke the adjustment anytime if the population is not supportive. He wants things to normalize and he is concerned about our lives.”
