Covid-19: Northern Uganda records 49 new cases

Twelve (12) truckers from Kyotera 9, two (2) from Amuru in Northern Uganda and Kampala 1 all tested positive for the virus.


Oyam – December 31, 2021: Seven districts in northern Uganda have recorded a total of 49 new infections according to the latest update issued by the Ministry of Health.

On Friday, December 31, the Ministry of Health updated the country on tests done on December 29. Of 7,743 tests conducted, 1,658 tested positive – indicating 21.4% of test positivity rate.

According to the same Ministry, three (3) new deaths occurred. 3,294 have since died of the pandemic, and 98,397 people have fully recovered.

Tests cumulative numbers stand at 2,143,822 as of December 31; 140,737 have tested positive since 2019.

There are 69 active cases or persons admitted to different health facilities across the country.

Of the 1,658 new cases, 1,646 are alerts and contacts from Kampala 991, Wakiso 231, Kibuku 65, Mbarara 64, Jinja 38, Mbale 31, Rakai 26; Soroti 26, Kiruhura 21, Luweero 14, Gulu 12.

Others are Iganga 11, Tororo 12, Oyam 7, Arua 7, Busia 16, Hoima 5, Pallisa 5, Namisindwa 5, Kalungu 5, Buliisa 5, Zombo 10, Masindi 4, Kabarole 6, Buikwe 4.

Koboko 3, Amuru 6, Kabale 1, Bunyangabu 1, Kamwenge 1, Kanungu 1, Arua 1, Koboko 1 and Kyotera 10 also recorded cases.

Twelve (12) truckers from Kyotera 9, Amuru 2 and Kampala 1 all tested positive for the virus.

To date, Uganda has vaccinated 11,377,067 people out of over 40 million population.

 Enforcement

Addressing the media on Friday, December 30, Lira RCC Lawrence Egole said those ‘visiting’ Lira City and are not wearing facemasks will not be allowed entry.

Egole also warned teachers against possessing fake Covid-19 vaccination cards as schools are expected to reopen next week on January 10, 2022.
