Covid: Uganda records 255 new cases as Christmas nears

Lira – 18, December 2021: Ugandans  are now getting more infected with Covid-19 ahead of “full economy reopening” in January 2022.

According to the latest statistics [below] released by the Ministry of Health, 255 new cases were recorded on 16, December.

The country has intensified its vaccinations drive, and record shows that nearly 8m people have been vaccinated.

Countries like China, USA, Germany, and others continue to donate vaccines to the East African nation to meet their national’s inoculation targets.

The latest statistics by the Ministry of Health.

Of the 255 new cases, all are alerts and contacts from: Wakiso (118), Kampala (104), Mbarara (4), Busia (4), Kibuku (3), Soroti (2), Masaka (1), Amuru (1), Kabale (1), Napak (1), Kyotera (12) and Amuru (1).

Three (3) were truckers from Kyotera (2) and Amuru (1).

China gives

On Friday, Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, Zhang Lizhong said, “600k does of Sinovac vaccine donated by China is expected to arrive in Uganda in a few days.”

In July, China donated 300,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine to Uganda. To date, it has donated more than a million doses to boost the national inoculation targets.
