Kampala—3, September 2020: Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) party leader, Jimmy James Micheal Akena Obote will today address his party members and entire Uganda.

This is Akena’s first time to address the nation (media) since reclaiming his party seat in a national delegates’ conference held on 1, August 2020 in Wakiso district.

“UPC President Hon. Jimmy Akena will address his first official press conference of the second term of office tomorrow, Thursday 3rd September 2020 at Party Headquarters Uganda House floor 6,” an invitation from UPC’s Head of Media and Communications, Mr. Muzeyi Faizo partly reads.

Asked what Mr Akena will address with focus, Mr Faizo said: “This is his first official press conference of the second term of office ever since he was re-elected as UPC President.”

“He’s to give the way forward for the Party ahead of 2020/2021 general elections and tackle matters of national important,” he added.

It’s never a secret that Akena and the UPC he leads will not present a presidential candidate in the 2021 general elections.

Appearing on NBS TV program, NBSFaceOff, a fortnight ago, Akena, who’s also the Lira Municipality MP, said UPC is looking at having more MPs in parliament before thinking about presidency.

Some UPC supporters have come to oppose this announcement.
