Uganda Martyrs University Ngetta campus launches e-learning programs

Lira – 3, September 2020: Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) has become the first higher institution of learning in Lira City  to adopt a digital or virtual learning to close the educational gap created by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Covid-19 in Uganda resulted in the closure of all academic institutions by government.

It is situated at the now defunct Ngeta National Teacher’s Training College – NTC, about 5 kilometres from the central business district of Lira City.

Announcing the “new normal” last evening, Professor Magrate Angucia, a director at UMU Ngetta campus, said all their courses were accredited and approved for online learning.

“The university has retooled all its staff from campuses to online learning, designing and migrating all its programmes to and for online teaching and learning,” the university’s press statement reads in part.

In her media address on Tuesday evening at Apostolic Social Centre, Professor Angucia who was flanked by Apollo Okello, a senior lecturer at the university said all is set for e-learning at their campuses.

Prof Angucia assured the community that all the accredited courses were upon approval by NCHE successfully migrated to online and that the lectures are fully equipped to deliver these packages to both old and new students.

With resumption of studies now to be delivered digitally, Prof. Angucia urged students who picked forms to return them, further stating that their doors are open for admission.

As part of measures to mitigate Covid-19, president Museveni on 20th March closed all the institutions of learning, and most academic institutions are considering virtual learning as an option.

Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a faith-based private University owned by the Episcopal Conference of the Catholic Bishops of Uganda.

UMU acknowledges the late Archbishop Kiwanuka as the Father of Catholic higher education in Uganda.
