Uganda: 14 districts share 66 new Covid-19 cases confirmed on Saturday

Kampala—August, 16 2020: Uganda’s Ministry of Health on Sunday evening confirmed 66 new Covid-19 cases from 4,816 total samples tested on Saturday, August 15, 2020.

The Saturday cases become the highest tally ever to be confirmed since March this year.

Uganda’s cumulative total confirmed cases are now 1,500.

The Ministry of Health’s additional confirmation were as below.

Of the new cases, 53 are alerts: 30 from Kampala, 6 from Namisindwa, 7 from Wakiso, 10 from Tororo, Moroto, Katakwi, Buikwe, Bukwo, Bundibugyo, Mbale, Isingiro, Hoima and Buliisa districts.

Eleven (11) were contacts to previously confirmed cases: 9 from Kampala and 2 from Namisindwa and Nakaseke districts.

Two (2) were returnees: 1 from Ethiopia, and 1 from Oman.

At border points, 16 foreign truck drivers tested positive for Covid-19 and their entry into the country was not permitted.

There are now 1,142 Covid-19 recoveries in Uganda.

On Saturday, 1,868 total samples from Points of Entry were tested, and 2,948 samples from alerts and contacts.

As of Saturday, Uganda had confirmed 13 Covid-19 deaths.
