Oyam’s Covid-19 case among 97 new cases confirmed

National—23, August 2020: Results from Covid-19 tests done on 22 August 202 confirms 97 new cases. The cumulative total confirmed cases of Ugandans is now 2,263, the Ministry of Health says.

Of the new cases, 90 are contacts and alerts: 59 from Kampala, 11 from Wakiso, 6 from Buikwe, 3 from Luweero, 3 from Namisindwa, 2 from Mukono, 2 from Jinja, 1 from Kabale, 1 from Amuru, 1 from Oyam and 1 from Tororo districts.

One is a returnee from Mali, and 6 were truck drivers from points of entry: 2 from Malaba, 2 from Busia, 1 from Mpondwe and 1 from Padea.

The Ministry of Health, in its Sunday afternoon announcement via Twitter, also says 10 foreign truck drivers tested positive for Covid-19 at the border points of entry, and their entry into the country was not permitted.

There are now 1, 226 Covid-19 recoveries for Uganda, and 20 deaths.

On Saturday, 1,501 total samples were tested from points of entry and 2,504 samples from alerts and contacts.

A total of 4,005 samples were tested on Saturday, the Ministry adds.
