Bushenyi—August, 19, 2020: The minister for general duties in Office of the Prime Minister Hon. Mary Karooro Okurut has secured another shillings 200 million to facilitate ‘her skilling programs’ in the district.

The funds to a tune of over shillings 800 million was pledged by president Museveni two years ago (2018) when he was officiating at the end of a ‘four month skilling project’ that was organised by Karooro Okurut Foundation (KOF) in Bushenyi.

TND News has learnt that State House has released another batch of shillings 200 million to the office of the Bushenyi district Woman MP, Mrs Okurut following the first batch that was released a year ago.

The money is part of the shillings 800 million which President Yoweri Museveni pledged at the commissioning of 800 women/girls on 25, 08 2018 at Bushenyi Municipal grounds in Bushenyi district.

The women were trained by KOF with different skills that included tailoring, salon, making of re-usable sanitary pads, handcrafts, among others.

When contacted, Minister Karooro said that the second “batch makes it shillings 400 million leaving a balance of shillings 400 million”.

She told this digital publication that the President’s office has already assured her that it will also release the balance “very soon”.

“The release of these funds now makes it 400 million as part of 800 million which the President pledged when he was officiating at our function and the remaining 400 million I am assured by the President’s office that it will be released very soon,” said Karooro.

She further said that the secured 200 million will be distributed to 200 women/girls with each getting 1 million to help each one of them “starting up something” in relation to what they were trained in during the course.

“The 200 million will be distributed to 200 women and each of them will get 1 million to help them start something in relation to what they learnt during the course,” she emphasised.

“This is in line with my vision of mobilizing and empowering Bushenyi women and girls to start something which can generate income, and in the long run they can contribute towards their households’ incomes.”

“These trainings have helped women/girls to become job creators in different fields and I am very opportunistic that the society can be transformed using collaborating efforts,” she noted.

The general duties’ Minister thanked President Museveni for fulfilling the pledge, adding this will strengthen communities and families further.
