Lira—August 13, 2020: The Chairpersons District Football Association (DFA) in Lango sub-region have embraced the new initiative of introducing Lango Waa Cup tournament, especially when SOPs on Covid-19 are lifted.
Lango Waa Cup is an initiative of BRAZO SPORTS EVENTS headed by Deogratious Opio aka The Brazilian—a teacher, referee and a sports commentator at Radio QFM 94.3.
In their recent sitting, the chairpersons of District Football Association welcomed the initiative and said it will definitely nurture and promote new football talents in the sub-region.
Asked how the tournament will run, Mr Opio told TND Sports that it will involve teams from all constituencies in each district within Lango sub-region.
Among Chairpersons DFA who endorsed Lango Waa Cup are: Ambrose Too-neka from Kole District, Issac Ogwang from Alebtong, Martin Okech from Kwania, Ronald Abura from Dokolo, John Orach and Obongi Patrick both from Amolatar.
We intend to use this sporting event to bring the young people across Lango sub-region together to create awareness on HIV/Aids, promote players’ agenda of greening Lango by promoting tree planting through distribution of tree seedlings to football clubs.
Others are identification and developing young talent in sports as well as exposing them in to the world of competitive football, Opio disclosed to TND Sports.
Mr Opio further revealed that he is in close collaboration with Lango Cultural Leaders who will also take part in the sporting the event.
Meanwhile, in their reactions, chairman DFA for Alebtong, Issac Ogeang urged members to embrace sporting activities as they form structure from top to bottom.
DFA chair for Dokolo expressed his fear on the sustainability of the league and cited an example of Obua Cup and others which collapsed sometimes back. He was, however, quick to embrace the idea of introducing Lango Waa Football League, adding “it should be embraced.”
Eron Alal, who is the CEO of FUFA Northern Region, said they are soon holding a series of meetings with other members from the northern region. He says he will mobilise them to support this cause.
