Uganda registers 32 new Covid-19 cases, 1 death

National—August 14, 2020: Results from Covid-19 tests done on Thursday, 13 August 2020 confirm 32 new cases out of 4,289 total samples tested.

The total cumulative confirmed cases of Uganda is now 1, 385.

The Ministry of Health also confirmed one new Covid-19 death, bringing total deaths to 12. The deceased is a 65-year-old Ugandan male, a resident of Kampala Metropolitan Area who was admitted in Nsambya Hospital and later transferred to China-Uganda Friendship Hospital in Naguru after developing signs and symptoms consistent with Covid-19.

According to a press statement from the Ministry, he later passed on while on admission at Naguru Hospital. Results from the laboratories confirm Covid-19.

Of the 32 new cases, seventeen are alerts, six are truck drivers, six are contacts to previously confirmed cases and three are returnees.

Six contacts to previously confirmed cases are from: Three from Kampala Metropolitan Area, two from Nakaseke and one from Tororo.

Of the returnees, two arrived from Kenya and one from DRC. Nineteen truckers tested positive at border points and were prohibited from entering Uganda.

There are currently 1,142 Covid-19 recoveries in Uganda, data from the Ministry of Health shows.

Since March this year, 312,792 cumulative Covid-19 samples have been tested.
