Covid-19: 65-y-o Mbale man dies, 81 new cases confirmed

National—August 30, 2020: Coronavirus has claimed lives of 30 Ugandans.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Health on Sunday evening, says the latest deceased is a 65-year-old man and a resident of Mbale, Eastern Uganda.

The Ministry also announced that from samples tested on Saturday, 29 August 2020, 81 people tested positive for Covid-19.  The cumulative total confirmed cases of Ugandans are now 2,928.

The breakdown of the 81 new cases: 67 are contacts and alerts; 32 from Kampala, 9 from Kiryandongo, 7 from Kitgum, 4 from Wakiso, 4 from Mukono, 3 from Iganga, 2 from  Jinja, 2 from Gulu, 1 from Mbale, 1 from Oyam, 1 from Bundibugyo and 1 from Namisindwa districts.

Twelve health workers: 4 from Lira, 3 from Kampala, 3 from Moroto, 1 from Jinja and 1 from Tororo also tested positive.

Tests from truck drivers from Malaba border confirmed two positive cases out of 791 samples.

According to the Ministry, 11 foreign truckers tested positive for Covid-19 at the border, and their entry into the country was not permitted.

Todate, 1,288 Ugandan have recovered from the virus.

Samples tested from contacts and alerts on Saturday were 3,099.

3,890 samples were tested on Saturday.
