Measles-Rubella & Polio pay divides Kaberamaido district leaders

Kaberamaido The local council one [LC1] chairpersons in Kaberamaido district who participated actively in the recently concluded Measles-Rubella and Polio immunization campaigns have accused their bosses over delayed payment.

According to the angry LC1s, the Kaberamaido district health officer [DHO], Mr James Odongo and Mr Benard Ogwang, the chief administrative officer [CAO] have all denied to pay them.

The pair came under spotlight on Thursday after some angry LC1s spoke to TND News’ Jaspher Ouni.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, one says they have been active in mobilization of locals and they were promised timely payment.

“The pay has not been remitted up to date,” a village leader says.

He added that each LC1 chairperson was entitled to shillings 40,000 only as remuneration for the exercise.

James Odongo, the district health officer when contacted says: “How i do my work is ‘punctually’ different and issues of Kaberamaido district should not be handled from the media houses.”

When contacted too, CAO Benard Ogwang, says the money is available but they [district leaders] are not trained on how to access it.

Mr Ogwang, like the DHO, added, “We don’t handle issue through media.”

According to the CAO, they were supposed to be trained to access the money on the 29/10/2019 but “unfortunately the same date i was again called to appear before auditors in Kampala.”
