As Ramadan Kareem kicks off on Monday, Pakistan Business Community in Uganda – Lira have
told TND News of their plans to carry out a number of Cooperate Social
Responsibilities (CSRs) and acts of charity.
Agha Aslam is the media coordinator of Pakistan Association of Uganda.
He told TND News desk that they will extend donations to at least 60
Muslim inmates at Lira Central government prision.
This according to Aslam will include edibles to allow easy fasting during Ramadan or Ramazan from the Turkish language – the month of Saum, which Muslims are associated with fasting.
This is one of the five posts of Islam. Throughout Ramadan, Muslims refuse to eat and drink, smoke and intimate life during the day.
The month lasts 29-30 days, which depends on the lunar calendar.
Fasting begins at dawn, ends after sunset.
Meanwhile, Aslam says Pakistan Association of Uganda has also mobilized resources to purchase a new carpet and that during Ramdan, it will be donated to Taquar Mosque along Ojwina Road in Lira town.
Most of these activities will come in the second and third week of
Ramadan as explained by the media coordinator.
Agha Aslam adds that the Pakistan Association will also host close to 3000 people including non – Muslims and local leaders at Lango Quran and this will be punctuated with a lot of events and activities.
This is not the first time that the Pakistani business men in Lira are
supporting the local community.
It should be recalled that PAU Lira donated an ambulance in Kampala and held blood collection drives both in Lira and Kampala.
Last year as part of activities to mark Ramadan, Pakistan Community in Ugandan – Lira mobilized the youth and organized an inter-Division football competitions to promote talent.
Winning teams received both cash
rewards and medals in a function officiated by Lira Municipality Mayor,
Mike Ogwang Olwa Veve.
