Apac – 30 0ctober 2020: Recently, a combined team of development partners launched an operation and collected 12 children between the ages of 8 and 12 years.
They teens were later re-united with their families. However, a few of them have reportedly returned to town streets, again.
Mr Tommy Okada, the executive director of Friends of Goodwill (FoG), in an interview said there are people in Apac who are encouraging these children to stay in town; the scrap dealers and other people employ them to work in their gardens.
The FoG executive director also added that all of these have been because of a ‘separation between parents and the probation and social office’.
He urged them to do ‘a lot of sensitization’.
“The number for these children would still increase if the government fails to act, and the scrap dealers have not stopped engaging these children,” he added.
