“End of year” lightning hits two in Northern Uganda

Two people from the same family were on Saturday hit by lightening in the northern Uganda district of Omoro.

The incident happened at around 5:00pm in Te Got parish, Lakwana sub-county in Omoro district.

Both victims were inside the house when it was heavily raining, survivors and local leaders say.

Agnes Agik, 30, [dead] and Rose Opoka, 60, [admitted for treatment] are all residents of Hima village, Te Got parish.

According to the area Local Council One Chairperson, Hima village, Mwaka Geoffrey, he says Agnes Agik died instantly while Rose Opoka was rushed to Lacor hospital in Gulu town from where she is getting treatment till now.

She was in critical state by referral moment, he says.

“Agnes left a one year old child and 6 others,” area leader tells our reporter.

Area leaders, including the Lakwana sub-county LC3 chairperson called on locals to be extra careful when it’s raining.

Agnes was laid to rest in their home in Hima village Te Got parish on Sunday morning.
