BRIEFLY: First abattoir worth ‘millions’ opens in Omoro town council

Omoro Town Council in Omoro district has for the first time officially handed over a new abattoir to butchers in the town council.

The handover took place on Monday [last week] in Opit central division, Omoro town council.

Okello Kwoo Walter Lukwaia, the Omoro town council LC3 chairperson says the new slaughter house is only for the butchers operating within the town council.

He says construction of the structure was worth 50 million shillings, adding that it was part of the local revenue generated.

“This house will give you a decent environment and animals will die humbly,” he jokingly said.

He noted that the town council together with other partners is on the verge of constructing a good road to the abattoir and to put perimeter fence around to reduce on theft cases of animals and other property.

Daniel Oyaru, the chairperson Omoro town council Butchers’ Association praised the town council for their support.

He says they have been facing challenges in operating their business, further saying house will as well offer good quality meats to their customers.

Rose Mary Lamwaka – the veterinary officer Omoro town council  warned those who will use the abattoir  to utilize it according to the rules and regulations given to them by town council authorities.
