The National Resistance Movement [NRM] party candidate has been declared the new Butebo district LC5 Chairperson elect on Thursday night.
Samuel Keddi and Independent candidate, James Okurut were the two main politicians competing for the district seat.
Few hours to midnight, Thursday, the Butebo District Returning Officer [DRO], Rashid Musinguzi declared NRM’s Keddi a winner.
He polled 17,554 votes which is equivalent to 64.2 percent while James Okurut garnered only 9,765 votes, representing 35.7 percent.
In his brief speech after being announced winner, Keddi promised unity to the people of Butebo district.
Meanwhile, the NRM party communication officer, Rogers Mulindwa says the Butebo poll as extensively exposed country’s opposition parties as too weak to find a candidate.
In a Friday statement, Mulindwa said: “Butebo becomes the 10th LC V seats to be taken by NRM party since July last year [2016].
