The Secretary General of the ruling NRM party, Richard Todwong, has confirmed that they are in negotiations with Alex Ogwal Adyebo, the Kwania district LC5 chairman.
Once negotiations are complete, Adyebo will officially join NRM from the UPC party. The announcement was made on Friday in Kwania district during a rally for President Yoweri Museveni.
Speaking briefly at Museveni’s rally, Ogwal said civil servants the president sent to Kwania are working very well. He publicly committed to supporting Museveni in his reelection bid.
“…Your Excellency, we are negotiating with Mr Todwong but I have pledged to support you.”
He also asked Museveni to support him in his quest for another term on an independent ticket.
Adyebo lost the UPC party flag to Geoffrey Ogwang Obia, the current LC5 councillor for Chawente sub-county to the district council.
“I can see the joy happening for the alliance between UPC and NRM,” said Todwong. More than 30 crosed to NRM from UPC and were welcomed by the NRM National Chairman, Museveni.
President Museveni, who started his address at 4:14pm, said he was in Kwania to remind the people about the story of NRM with Uganda and Africa.
“I am happy I have been involved in that story for the last 65 years. We started in 1960, and at that time we were in old political parties, others were in DP, UPC and Kabaka Yekka.
“The problem with those parties was sectarianism, some were based on tribes like Kabaka Yekka, others on religion like DP and UPC. That politics undermined the security and peace of Uganda,” Museveni said.
In his continued wealth creation message, Museveni said Uganda doesn’t need spectators but players.
“With football, you have sports people and spectators, but with wealth creation, everyone must be a player,” he emphasised.
To those still outside the money economy, Museveni, the NRM presidential candidate, asked people of Kwania to join him to chase poverty from homes by bringing something that will put food on your table and money in your pocket.
