Boyfriend strangles lover to death in Serere

Serere | The territorial police in Serere are actively investigating a suspected murder by strangulation.

The crime took place in Sapiri cell, Kangodo Ward, Ocaapa town council, Serere district.

The incident resulted in the death of an 18-year-old student named Scovia Apio.

Apio, David Eotu’s daughter, was a Senior 3 student at Homeward Secondary School in Serere district.

On June 12, 2024, at around 4:00 a.m., the deceased’s brother, Tom Osako, went outside for a quick call. When he returned, he saw his sister, Scovia, also going outside.

About five minutes later, Tom heard a pig make a noise and suspected something was wrong. He went outside and noticed a man leaving his sister’s room.

Osako attempted to pursue the man but was unable to catch or identify him. He returned to his sister’s room, only to find her dead.

He informed their father, and the incident was reported to Serere Central Police Station (CPS) as CRB 285/2024.

Preliminary investigations show that Scovia received death threats from her boyfriend, Philip Ajotu, on June 8, 2024.

These threats were not reported to authorities. Scovia and Philip are believed to have had misunderstandings after she discovered he was in love with her best friend.

Edison Obukulem, the Police Public Relations Officer for East Kyoga, confirmed that the body had been taken to the mortuary for a postmortem.

Meanwhile, the prime suspect, Philip Ajotu, has been arrested and is being held at Kapelebyong Central Police Station in Kapelebyong district.

The police advise the public to avoid all forms of violence and to report any incidents to authorities as soon as possible.
