The government through the Ministry of Works and Transport has commenced the construction of new Karuma Bridge.
On Wednesday, Ainebyoona Emmanuel, Senior Communications Officer at the Ministry of Works and Transport, said ZENITAKA Corporation of Japan will undertake the construction.
Ainebyoona added that the consultant for the project is Oriental Consultants Global.
The contractor is mobilizing and setting out works, he said, with a commencement date on October 1, 2026.
The contract period, according to him, is 36 months.
“The Ministry remains committed to delivering a resilient and safe bridge.”
The current Karuma Bridge was constructed in 1963, with early preparation in 1962 when the country gained Independence from Britain.
