Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has intensified his public confrontation with Minister for Water and Environment Maj Gen (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire, warning that the veteran general could be arrested as early as tomorrow.
In a fresh post on X, Muhoozi wrote, “3 days is too long. We are arresting Otafiire tomorrow without fail,” adding a new twist to the increasingly public dispute between the two senior government figures.
The statement follows an earlier ultimatum in which Muhoozi demanded that Otafiire apologise over remarks he made in Parliament. A report published on October 2 said Muhoozi had given Otafiire one week to apologise or face unspecified consequences.
Otafiire recently warned the ruling NRM against suppressing political opposition, arguing that a strong opposition is important for democracy. His comments have added to the tensions surrounding his public exchanges with Muhoozi.

The two generals have previously disagreed publicly, with Muhoozi at one point warning that Otafiire was close to being arrested after the veteran officer criticised alleged violence and security-related actions.
Their differences have also extended into Uganda’s succession debate, with Otafiire previously expressing reservations about Muhoozi becoming President while acknowledging his position as President Yoweri Museveni’s son.
Muhoozi’s latest statement has therefore drawn fresh attention to the dispute, particularly because it refers directly to an alleged arrest and gives what appears to be a specific timeframe.
However, the post does not state what offence Otafiire is accused of committing, nor does it identify the legal process through which the proposed arrest would be carried out. As of the latest reports, there is also no confirmation that Otafiire has been arrested.
