Caught Red Handed! Teacher Nabbed For Allegedly Using Another Person’s UCE Certificate For 31 Years

The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has arrested a primary school teacher in Sironko District over allegations that he impersonated another person and used his academic documents for more than three decades. The arrest follows investigations into the alleged use of another person’s identity and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) certificate for employment purposes.

The suspect, identified as Godfrey Namasake, teaches at Budadiri Girls Primary School in Sironko District. He is accused of falsely presenting himself as Christopher Lutukayi, allegedly using a UCE certificate issued in Lutukayi’s name to establish his academic qualifications.

According to investigations conducted by the IGG Mbale Regional Office, the alleged impersonation dates back to September 1, 1995. If established in court, the allegations would mean that Namasake had been using another person’s identity and academic documents for approximately 31 years.

Investigators reportedly established that the UCE certificate in question was issued by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) in the name of Christopher Lutukayi. The teacher is alleged to have relied on the document to present himself as Lutukayi, raising questions about the verification of academic qualifications and identities during recruitment and employment.

The case highlights concerns surrounding the alleged misuse of academic documents, which are essential in determining whether individuals possess the qualifications required for particular jobs. The verification of certificates and personal details is an important safeguard against impersonation and other forms of misconduct in public service.

The IGG, which is mandated to investigate corruption and other forms of misconduct in public institutions, has pursued the matter following its investigations into the alleged impersonation. The arrest marks a significant development in the case as authorities move to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected use of another person’s academic credentials.

Namasake was expected to appear before the Sironko Court on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to face the next stage of the legal process. Court proceedings are expected to provide an opportunity for the allegations to be formally addressed and for the evidence gathered by investigators to be examined. However, the allegations against Namasake remain accusations, and his guilt has not been established. He is entitled to the presumption of innocence and a fair hearing until a competent court of law determines the case.
