Amolatar District Secondary School Association (ADSSA) has issued a notice threatening to close all boarding sections effective Monday, October 5, 2026.
Their action follows directives issued by the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer in a letter dated September 14, 2026, which explicitly prohibited schools from collecting any monies from parents for boarding expenses, food costs, and Parent-Teacher Association contributions.
According to a correspondence dated September 28, 2026, addressed to district chairperson Morish Ogwal Omara, the association acknowledged receipt of instructions from the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer prohibiting financial collections from parents.
The letter indicates that these directives stem from a baraza [meeting] convened by the district chairperson, wherein the Baraza resolved that parents should not be required to make any monetary payments to schools.
The association now seeks guidance from the district chairperson through the district council regarding school operations, given that fund collection has been prohibited by district authorities through the Chief Administrative Officer’s office.
The association further highlighted staffing challenges, noting that Parent-Teacher Association and Board of Governors teachers previously filled critical operational gaps within schools.
In their correspondence, they documented specific examples: Aputi Secondary School employed 12 PTA teachers, Alemere Comprehensive employed 28, Namasale Seed School employed 16, Agikdak Seed School employed 12, Muntu Seed School employed 29, and Etam Seed School employed 2.
The association has declared that unless the matter is resolved by Monday, all parents will be instructed to retrieve their children from boarding facilities, as schools cannot sustain operations without financial support while the Chief Administrative Officer has prohibited fund collection.
Moses Awira, chairperson of the association, confirmed these developments, stating that their letter was submitted to and received by the district chairperson’s office.
He indicated that if the issue remains unresolved by Monday, the association will remove all support staff and Parent-Teacher Association or Board of Governors’ personnel.
