Junior Local Government Minister Justine Nameere has come to the support of Ugandan TikToker Benita Nakabugo, popularly known as Benitah256MadamViolence, after she lost her job in Bahrain following political controversy.

Nameere said she had offered financial support of $10,000 to Nakabugo and promised to help her secure new employment if her former workplace does not reconsider its decision.

The minister said she was saddened by what happened to the TikToker, describing her as an innocent person who was simply exercising her rights.

“I wish to condemn the acts of inciting and threatening violence and blackmail against Benitah,” Nameere said.

She added that Nakabugo has a constitutional right to work and express her political views without being threatened or targeted.

Nakabugo, who has more than 1.2 million followers on TikTok, revealed that she lost her job at The Matcha Space in Bahrain after a political backlash linked to comments she made following Uganda’s 2026 presidential election.

After the election, Nakabugo shared her views online, reminding supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) that their presidential candidate had lost and that President Yoweri Museveni would proceed with swearing-in.

Her comments attracted criticism from some opposition supporters, who later turned their attention to her workplace.

The controversy escalated after Ugandan social media users flooded the company’s online platforms with complaints and negative reviews over Nakabugo’s political statements.

The TikToker later announced that she had lost her employment and blamed the campaign against her for the decision.

Speaking about the matter, Minister Nameere questioned why some people expected Nakabugo to support the same political views as them.

She argued that just as individuals have the freedom to criticise leaders and political parties, others also have the right to express opinions that differ from theirs.

“When you come out to attack President Museveni and his family and we who are serving in the NRM and call us all kinds of names, whom do you consult first?” Nameere asked.

She wondered why some people believed Nakabugo owed them loyalty or had to share their political beliefs.

Nameere said she learnt about Nakabugo’s situation while carrying out official duties and immediately reached out to offer support.

“Luckily, we are in touch with her; I was in the field when I got to know about her situation. I assured her that nothing bad will come to her,” she said.

The minister explained that efforts had been made to engage Nakabugo’s former employers and clarify the circumstances surrounding the online attacks.

She said the company was informed that the accusations against Nakabugo were politically motivated and that the campaign against her was driven by people seeking to harm her.

Nameere said she would appreciate it if the company decided to retain Nakabugo, but assured her that alternative plans were being considered if that did not happen.

“If they carry on employing her, we shall be grateful. If, however, they choose to let her go, we shall get her another job,” she said.

The minister later announced that she had instructed her bank and personal assistant to obtain Nakabugo’s account details so that she could send her $10,000 in financial assistance.

“In fact, I have directed my bank and my personal assistant to get her bank information. I am sending her 10,000 dollars,” Nameere said.

Nakabugo had earlier appealed to people involved in the controversy to stop contacting her former employer after she lost her job.

The Matcha Space has not publicly released details explaining the circumstances surrounding the end of Nakabugo’s employment, while discussions about the incident continue online.
