Lira City West Division Council on Thursday, August 20, 2026, held its council meeting and approved several key resolutions.
The sitting aims at strengthening service delivery and improving the operations of the division during the 2026/2027 financial year.
Through the council speaker, the council approved the formation of three standing committees to oversee different areas of the division’s activities.
The committees include the Finance, Works, and Community and Social Services.
These committees are expected to play a key role in monitoring the implementation of council programmes, scrutinising division activities and ensuring that services reach residents effectively.
Council also approved a work calendar outlining how the division will conduct its business and implement planned activities during the 2026/2027 financial year.

Another major issue discussed was the implementation of resolutions that had been passed by the previous council but had remained pending.
The new council agreed on a timeframe within which the outstanding resolutions should be followed up and completed.
Speaking after the meeting, speaker Tonny Opio Amwonya called for unity among councillors and urged them to put the interests of residents above political differences.
The speaker said the council should work together to push for better services and ensure that the concerns of residents are presented to the government for consideration and action.
He further urged councillors and government officials to avoid using politics to create divisions, saying cooperation between the two sides is essential for effective service delivery.
The speaker also said that, as the representative of residents in Teso A, he would continue advocating for improved services for the people of the area and residents across Lira City West Division.
Amwonya stressed that the council’s priority should be addressing the needs of residents and ensuring that government services reach the communities that need them most.
