Ugandan TikToker Benita Nakabugo has revealed that she lost her job in Bahrain following a wave of online criticism linked to her political comments about the National Unity Platform (NUP) and its leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

Nakabugo, who is known on TikTok as Benitah256MadamViolence, said she was dismissed from her job at The Matcha Space in Bahrain after supporters of NUP allegedly contacted her employer over her political views.

The TikToker said the campaign against her started after some of her comments regarding Uganda’s 2026 presidential election resurfaced online, attracting criticism from sections of opposition supporters.

According to Nakabugo, some individuals contacted her workplace and pressured the company over her statements, which she believes eventually contributed to her losing her job.

In a statement addressed to NUP supporters, Nakabugo said the objective of those who complained against her had been achieved after she lost her source of income.

“Hello, NUP supporters. I would like to say that what you have done to my company is enough. You kept contacting them and putting pressure on them until they fired me, and now you have succeeded in your mission. I have lost my job,” she said.

Nakabugo asked those who had been contacting her former employer to stop, saying there was no need to continue after the company had already taken action against her.

“I sincerely hope you can stop sending them whatever you have been sending. They have done exactly what you wanted,” she said.

The TikToker questioned whether her job loss would change the political situation in Uganda or influence the country’s leadership.

“So, let me see if losing my job is going to make Bobi Wine the President of Uganda. If that was the mission, congratulations—you succeeded,” Nakabugo said.

She also thanked those she blamed for contributing to her dismissal, adding that the loss of employment had affected her personally.

The controversy surrounding Nakabugo began after she made remarks about the outcome of Uganda’s 2026 presidential election, in which she reminded NUP supporters that their candidate had lost and President Yoweri Museveni would be sworn in.

Her comments angered some opposition supporters who accused her of mocking their political beliefs and celebrating their disappointment.

The disagreement later moved from social media discussions to the pages of The Matcha Space, the Bahrain-based company where Nakabugo worked as a barista.

After the company shared videos featuring Nakabugo at her workplace, some Ugandan social media users flooded the comment sections with criticism and complaints.

Some users also reportedly posted negative reviews about the company online, creating pressure around Nakabugo’s association with the brand.

The company later removed TikTok videos featuring Nakabugo, leading to speculation among online users about her employment situation.

Nakabugo has since confirmed that she is no longer working with the company, although The Matcha Space has not publicly explained the reasons behind ending her employment.

The incident has sparked debate among Ugandans online about freedom of expression, political opinions and the consequences public figures may face because of their views.

Some people have defended Nakabugo’s right to express her political opinions, while others argue that individuals should consider the impact of their public statements.

The situation has also raised questions about whether employers should be involved in political disputes involving their employees.

Nakabugo, who has more than 1.2 million followers on TikTok, remains one of the Ugandan online personalities whose political comments attract significant public attention.

As discussions continue, the TikToker says she will now focus on moving forward after losing her job, while the debate surrounding political expression online continues.
