Months after general elections, ANT begins mobilisation for 2031

The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party’s top officials, including the former party presidential candidate in the January 15 election, Maj. Gen Mugisha Muntu has launched a nationwide assessment tour.

The tour aims to assess their performance in the general elections and to begin planning for 2031.

On June 2, ANT visited the Bunyoro sub-region in the afternoon, where party officials urged residents to vote for their political party candidates for people-centred interests.

Muntu noted that every sub-region of the country has multiple natural resources, such as minerals. These natural resources, he said, are not benefiting communities due to poor representation at the national level.

“The country has multiple natural [mineral] resources which remain non-beneficial to communities,” he said.

Speaking of Bunyoro, Muntu identified it as one of the richest sub-regions with oil and gas natural resources. He calls on people’s representatives to speak and protect their interests.

For example, the Karamoja sub-region has natural resources like tin, gold, copper and marble, Busoga with rare earth, and South West with gold and iron ore. “All these resources need leaders who can stand firm with their people so that they are not exploited.”

He also stressed the need for separation of powers, where the executive, parliament, and judiciary function as independent institutions from one another, but work together for the stability of the country.

“The country is walking on a very slippery path because the Parliament and the Judiciary are compromised,” the former army commander Gen Muntu noted.

Ismail Kasule, MP for Hoima West City Division, advised ANT leaders who went through the 2026 general election to utilise the few positions they got to impact their people.

Jackson Wabyona, the ANT coordinator for the Western region, has called on Bunyoro to join them in building a better Uganda.

Meanwhile, Ayebale Kanyarutoke, the Kagadi district ANT coordinator, has condemned the rampant corruption in the country.

Margaret Nyamungu and Tugume, residents of oil and gas host districts of Hoima and Buliisa, emphasised the need for better and transparent leadership at both local and national levels.

In the 12th Parliament, ANT is represented by only one MP from Bunyoro, Ismail Kasule. He is the Member of Parliament for Hoima West City Division.
